Detox Diva: How To Get Started

Detox. Detox. Detox!  All of us (at some point or another) have put our bodies through the ringer.  All of us.  Yes, even you....

You might be the one who jogs every morning before work, doesn't drink alcohol or smoke, has that green grass smoothie full of all things good and wonderful, right? I see you.  Or you might be the vegetarian/yoga instructor/exercise nut/daily supplement devotee.  Either way, you still need to detox.  

Even if you're healthy right now or have been super duper healthy all your life, that doesn't mean you're immune to toxic build-up in your body.  If you stayed away from unhealthy junk food and/or soft drinks, had no sugar added to your diet and exercised on a consistent basis, you're still susceptible to toxins from the environment.  Toxins surround us. 

Toxins are inside & outside your home, everything from: Formaldehyde, Radon, Lead, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrofluoric acid, Solvents, Disinfectants, Chloroform, Asbestos, Pesticides, Exhaust from diesel engines, benzene in gasoline - that's just to name a few (look it up, you'll be amazed).

The more you learn about what goes on in your body, and what could go wrong, the more shocked you will be that anyone on this planet is ever healthy.  That's why it's extremely vital that we all give our body a break from the abuse we do to ourselves and from what the environment has done to us.  That's where detoxing comes into play. 

Detoxing is just a fancy word for cleansing.  When you detox you're basically telling those toxins in your body - goodbye, get outta here, scram, adios, hasta luego (you get my drift). 

Here's how you can tell if you need to detox:
  • Feeling lethargic and sluggish
  • Constant headaches
  • Have joint pain
  • Susceptible to colds
  • Stinky breath
  • B.O. (Body Odor)
  • Skin issues like acne, eczema , psoriasis, rash, fungus
  • Constant bloating, digestive issues, constipation, flatulence
  • Allergic to food or very sensitive to them
  • Feeling depressed, irritable, moody
  • Back pain
  • Respiratory infections/problems
  • Pesky hemorrhoids
  • Sugar cravings
  • Sinus issues

If you have any or all of these symptoms then a detox program could really benefit you. Here are some easy easy to start:


Get out your favorite mug and start your morning off with some hot water and a slice of lemon (using that lemon grenade you buy at the grocery store won't cut it) use fresh lemons.  This will jump start your cleansing process.  Hot lemon water stimulates your digestive system and peristalsis muscles (those contractions inside your intestinal wall that keep things moving right along). 

Lemons and even limes will loosen those gunky toxins from your colon (your liver loves it too).  Plus, I know it's hard to believe but lemons are an alkaline type food.  They're acidic on their own yes, but once they're inside our bodies they become alkaline and an alkaline body is what you want for good health.

Epsom Salt:

Epsom Salt  has been around for centuries, it has healing benefits and extremely useful for eliminating toxins from the body.  An Epsom salt soak can replenish your  magnesium levels and release toxins through the pores.  Add 2 cups of Epsom salts to your bath, jump in (careful, you'll have to clean up that water you just spilled) and sit back for about 20 minutes as the salt is now working to rid your body of metals, minerals and toxins. 

Foot Detox Pad:

Sounds weird, I know.  However, I've used this several times and it does do what it says. You basically apply the pads to the soles of your feet before you retire to bed and you take it off the next morning.  The natural ingredients inside the pads work to remove toxins, promote circulation of your blood which make you feel refreshed.  Not all pads work the same, but one trusted brand is : Forest Sap Foot Detoxification Patch

Supplements & Herbs:

Heavy metals are no joke.  They exist in our drinking water, when we shower, in our foods, in our deodorant, in everything.  We can work at decreasing our chances of being exposed like; buying filters for our faucets and filters for our shower heads, even cooking our own food in glassware pots and pans, and buying organic deodorant.  But, even when we try to avoid some of the dangers, there are still some lurking around we can't get way from.

    1. Hi Reader, I wish I could point you in a better direction to avoid spammers but unfortunately, I get that problem too - I think we all do. I use blogger currently, which isn't numb to annoying spammers. I just block and report them immediately and go about my business.
